These early aging signs get more noticeable as our skin gets dryer and less elastic over time. When the amounts of hyaluronic acid (HA) in the skin tissues decrease due to aging, the water retention and resilience of skin will be lost, thereby causing rough skin, and fine wrinkles. To address skin aging, supplements containing HA are becoming increasingly popular.

The largest amount (approximately 50%) of HA in our body resides in skin tissue. Hyaluronic acid-containing dietary supplements from natural sources such as rooster combs will help compensate for the decline in HA associated with aging.The Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11852489.post-1123868982159455162005-08-12T10:48:00.000-07:002007-05-30T16:04:40.941-07:00Disease And AgingAs you can see, I wrote this post quite awhile ago. I make small edit changes every once in awhile to keep this post at the top. I don't want it to be archived because it is too imprtant, and I want everyone to get a chance to read it.

I'm going to have you read something that is from one of my favorite sites, drlam.com. Dr. Lam offers an intelligent look into what causes aging and how we can prevent it. What is written next might scare you, it did me.

Would you take the steps needed to naturally slow the proccess if you could?

Here is an excerpt on free radical damage and the role it plays in disease and aging:

By age 35, a good portion of our cellular protein has been damaged by oxidative stress (free radical damage) of pollution, stress, and poor food habits.
Significant mutational changes are already well entrenched that eventually may leads to cancer and other degenerative diseases. Symptoms such as glucose intolerance, hypertension, and digestive function imbalance begins to surface as the body starts to de-compensate. These symptoms reflect a body that is in the transitional phase of aging that will last 10 years from age 35 to 45 . Often the laboratory values are "borderline". In reality, the body is entering the transitional phase of the aging process that will last 10 years. Some people will have outward signs and symptoms of age related diseases, while other do not.

By age 45, most people have a variety of outward symptoms commonly accepted as the natural consequence of the aging progress, such as memory loss, decreased energy, hair loss, wrinkles. Laboratory values are now "abnormal", It is not uncommon that clinically active degenerative disease such as heart attack, diabetes, and cancer surface by this time. The body is now entering the clinical phase of aging. A proactive approach must be taken, although it may be late.

By age 55, very few can escape a body free from cancer, artherosclerosis, diabetes, or a combination of the above that account for 80 percent of age related degenerative diseases. Most people are on some form of drugs for symptomatic treatment of degenerative disease like osteoarthritis, Parkinson's Disease, and Diabetes. Many are shocked why there had been little to no "warning" signs, and a desperate attempt is now made to launch a salvage operation designed to rescue the body from a lifetime of damage.

That being said, I'm always looking out for more ways to prevent aging. I have learned alot from trial and error, and I will share the results with you so that you don't have to waste your time and money on things that don't work. The Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11852489.post-1117223103035997612005-05-27T12:44:00.000-07:002005-09-16T07:46:01.330-07:00GREENSIn the post, "Disease and Aging", there are specific things you can do to turn back the clock and prevent disease. One of the important steps (week 3) in the protocol is to increase your leafy green vegetable intake by 40%.
Well, I found that a little hard to do. :( The good thing is I've found some things that make accomplishing this task much easier. The reason I started this blog in the first place. : )
1. Odwalla "Superfood" Micronutrient fruit juice drink. It contains; wheat grass, barley grass, wheat sprouts, jerusalem artichoke, nova scotia dulse, spirulina, and of course fruit juices and puree to give it a better taste.
To learn more about Odwalla products visit: Odwalla
2. Eat the darkest greens possible, such as romaine lettuce instead of iceberg. Also one of the best possible greens to consume is spinach. The Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11852489.post-1117211514758975002005-05-27T09:31:00.000-07:002005-09-16T07:47:07.883-07:00Shower FiltersThis is the result of my seach for a GOOD economical shower filter: http://www.waterfiltersonline.com
Controlling Microorganisms
KDF media control the build-up of bacteria, algae and fungi in GAC beds, carbon block filters, and in-line carbon filters. By eliminating these microorganisms, KDF media significantly extend the life of the carbon, as well as protect downstream RO membranes and ion exchange resins from fouling. KDF media also control scale, algae, and bacteria. Using KDF media to reduce the build-up of bacteria and other microorganisms eliminates the need for chemical treatment methods which are both costly and harmful to the environment.
Microorganisms, however, are controlled two ways: First, the exchange of electrons in the Redox reaction creates an electrolytic field that most microorganisms can't survive. Second, KDF process media can cause hydroxyl radicals and peroxides to form from some water molecules. The hydroxide radicals and peroxides interfere with microorganisms' ability to function.
Heavy metals removal
Heavy metals in drinking water are a significant health threat. KDF media can remove up to 98% of water-soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. KDF media can be used alone, or to protect existing water purification technologies to treat groundwater supplies containing water-soluble heavy metals or to remove heavy metals from process water before it is discharged.
CHLORINE is an inorganic substance that chemically bonds to the protein in your hair and skin, destroying its natural ecological balance. Chlorine can leave your hair dry and brittle and make your skin flaky and itchy. As much as 50% of the chlorine taken into the body comes from skin absorption and inhalation. While carbon is great for drinking water filters, it is not great with hot water such as a shower. As we read in Dr. Lams site, regular carbon filters (after some time) allow bacteria to enter the water, with KDF that is prevented. I can't find a better filter for the price, if you can please comment.The Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11852489.post-1116860457508021442005-05-23T07:53:00.000-07:002005-10-31T11:32:56.200-08:00Getting The Energy To WorkoutThere is no diet that works without eating healthier and exercising, none, not one. It begins by changing your eating habits, cutting out caffeine, and getting good rest. Cutting out caffeine has got to be one of the hardest things to do because you want that boost of energy to get you going so that you can workout, or just to wake up. So, how are you going to get that boost without your daily caffeine fix? There are a couple of things you can do.

1. You can get much needed energy easily by taking Fruta Vida daily.
2. Another good boost can be had with a shot of wheatgrass.
3. Coconut Oil is also a good source of energy, and also it provides for a healthy metabolism.

Also when you cut out sugar you will find you have more energy. I've been on a very healthy diet, but I ate doughnuts and fast food all weekend, and this morning I had the hardest time waking up. I had no energy whatsoever. But during the week I was very good. I drank my my Fruta Vida, had my wheatgrass shots and didn't eat junk, I was ready to go. I didn't feel cranky and I had energy to do things after work.The Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11852489.post-1116684160992454662005-05-21T07:02:00.000-07:002005-10-31T11:18:50.090-08:00Extra Virgin Coconut OilWhat Coconut Oil Does Not Do:
* Does not increase blood cholesterol level
* Does not promote platelet stickiness or blood clot formation
* Does not contribute to atherosclerosis or heart disease
* Does not contribute to weight problems

What Coconut Oil Does Do:
* Reduces risk of atherosclerosis and heart disease
* Reduces risk of cancer and other degenerative conditions
* Helps prevent bacterial, viral, and fungal (yeast) infections
* Supports immune system function
* Helps control diabetes
* Provides an immediate source of energy
* Supports healthy metabolic function
* Improves digestion and nutrient absorption
* Supplies important nutrients necessary for good health
* Promotes weight loss
* Helps prevent osteoporosis
* Has a mild delicate flavor
* Is highly resistant to spoilage (long shelf life)
* Is heat resistant (the healthiest oil for cooking)
* Helps keep skin soft and smooth
* Helps prevent premature aging and wrinkling of the skin
* Helps protect against skin cancer and other blemishes
* Functions as a protective antioxidantThe Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11852489.post-1114788851240031172005-04-29T08:33:00.000-07:002005-05-21T07:22:34.846-07:00Increase Sleep For A Younger YouSleep deprivation is a frequently overlooked cause of premature aging!
Try to increase your sleep by 10%. I know in this day and age it's hard to do, but with some planning you should be able to make some time for it.
It is important to sleep in total darkness.
In the best of circumstances, you should get enough sleep to be able to wake up on your own without an alarm clock.The Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11852489.post-1114649139220015612005-04-27T17:22:00.000-07:002005-05-21T08:33:07.570-07:00Antioxidants Are Necessary In Controlling Free Radicals and OxidationFree radical is the term used for molecules or atoms that contain unpaired electrons constantly looking for mates. These electrons steal electrons from other molecules, thus causing a process called oxidation. Oxidation causes the molecules to become unstable and deteriorate.
Excesses of free radicals are implicated in the development of cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, cancer, macular degeneration, and aging, among others.
Antioxidants are molecules that have extra electrons that they give to free radicals, therefore neutralizing them. Therefore what we need to make sure we have first in our diet and supplementation are ANTIOXIDANTS.
The Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11852489.post-1114543645695823442005-04-26T12:27:00.000-07:002005-11-09T12:31:45.246-08:00Information On Water IntakeEveryone knows for your skin to retain its youthful appearance, it requires a minimum of 8 full glasses of water a day. It requires even more if you are exercising, or temperatures are high.

What you might not know, is that your water source is just as important.
Bottled water is a good source if it says "purified", or from a "natural spring source". What to avoid is any water that is bottled using tap water. If it is bottled with tap water it will say on the bottle or the cap, "from a municipal source", or "from a community water system". Keep away from that!
The best water sources available are from reverse osmosis systems, or carbon block filters.

Her is a segment of a story MSN did on water intake:

If you're drinking enough fluids, you're moving things more efficiently and quickly so toxins won't be sitting in your stomach for too long," says Bonci.
No need for eight cups?Although long accepted as conventional wisdom, the eight-cups-a-day recommendation is now being questioned by some health-care providers. "It's not clear to me that the advice is based on medical science," says Kirby. "That's just a number that may ensure adequate hydration."
Bonci suggests that body weight may be a better gauge. "Take a third of your weight in pounds and that's how many ounces you need to drink daily," she says. A 150-pound woman, for example, will need 50 ounces, which translates to a little more than six cups of water.
Activity level may increase requirements, too. "People who exercise will need more than the minimum," says Bonci, who also serves as director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "They must drink two to three cups an hour before exercise, one to two bottles of water during, and at least three cups of fluid afterwards."The Healthy Wayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11573038343187326436noreply@blogger.com0
